There are four types of lives- beneficial (hitkar), unbeneficial (ahitkar), blissful (sukhakar) and morose
(dukhakar). What are the factors that make our lives beneficial, unbeneficial, blissful or morose? What
are the parameters governing one’s lifespan? The scripture which describes all the above factors is
called as Ayurveda. (Ref. Charak Samhita)
The scriptures describe Ayurveda as the fifth Veda and the foremost science which is indestructible. The knowledge of this transcendental science which deals with one’s lifespan as mentioned in the aforesaid verse was first handed over by Lord Brahma to Daksha who in turn handed it over to Indra. Indra passed on this knowledge to the Ashwini kumaras who handed it over to Brihaspati and Brihaspati passed it onto Dhanvantari, who is considered as the respectable deity of Ayurvedic physicians.
We welcome you all to learn more about this divine science which helps us not only to maintain physical fitness and health but also helps us in progressing spiritually.
