These board games are in the form of “Kalamkari” art, which belongs to Andhra Pradesh.
“Kalam” means pen and “Kari” means craftsmanship; it is basically a style of textile design that involves painting intricate patterns with vegetable dyes.
This is how these beautiful board games not only are fun playing but it also provides livelihood to various artisans from various parts of India.

How to Play!

Game Paraphernalia – 

1 game board, 2 sets of four counters (total 8)

Goal or Objective – 

To bring one’s four counters in a straight line.

Game Setup – 

  • Initially board will be empty. There are 13 points where two or more lines are intersecting each other. Counters have to be placed only on these points (Fig 1).
  • To begin with, players place each of their counters alternatively on any of the empty points on the board such that Each player tries – 
    1.  To have all his four counters in a line and  
    2.  Block the opponent from forming a line of four with his counters.

Rules to Play –

  • After all counters are placed on the board, they start moving. A player can move only one counter during his turn. This movement is from its present point to its immediate next point (provided it’s empty) which is joined by a line to the current point (Fig 2).
  • A Counter cannot jump over any point. It cannot move to a point which is not directly connected by a line (Fig 3).
  • A counter cannot move to a point which is preoccupied. Counter cannot jump over any counter. There is no capturing of opponent’s counter (Fig 4)

Winner –  

  • One who brings all his four counters in a line the winner (fig 5)
  • In case neither player can make a line but one player has blocked movement of the opponent’s entire counter (fig 6) is the Singham game winner.

Maintenance & Care

  • Avoid direct sunlight for long.
  • Dust or wipe with dry brush/ cloth.
